So I was running the other night on the beach listening to my music enjoying the sunset as I come up to this large awesome sailboat that was not in the water, but sitting on the beach. You know sometimes it is amazing what you see when you go for a jog...
so always make sure you have your camera or phone!

Turns out I found out what happened... A guy bought this sailboat that day and was taking it north to his house and ran out of gas as there was only an hour of sunlight left. Needless to say he drifted ashore and there it sits. Talk about a bad day...

Visiting WA (the state of course)

I have had the pleasure of visiting WA twice now and I have to say it's one of my favorite places for sure. Everything is just beautiful out there from the mountain tops to the rivers that flow between the mountains. If you have never had the chance to visit, I do recommend it for sure. The picture on the right is the Columbia Gorge that separates WA and OR (WA on left and OR on right). I know the photo doesn't seem real does it? It was unbelievable from this look out point where back in the day there use to stand a large hotel/chalet that was created by a woman entrepreneur (pretty sweet the lady had skills!)

The city of Seattle is just as pretty as I thought it would be. We ate at the space needle restaurant that rotates around so you can see all of Seattle. If you make the trip to the city I would definitely recommend eating up there because then your fee for viewing the top is covered instead of paying the $16 fee.

Mt. Rainier has got to be one of the coolest mountain tops I have ever seen. The mountain is massive and you can faintly see it in the Seattle photo but it literally looks like Mt Olympus from the Space Needle, just sitting in the sky. You can park at the base of it and walk up to where you can literally touch it if you want. It was so cool while we walked up there because as you turned around to look behind you there was just this mass of mountains that stood in the clouds that felt something like the Sound of Music seriously that makes you want to bust out in song too.

Umm so we wanted to recreate the "Sumo" video but ya know...

Mt Rainier is a must if you visit WA, trust me!

One other thing that we had the chance to visit was the Apes Caves at the bottom of Mt St. Helen. These caves were formed from lava tubes when it erupted over 100 yrs ago. The camera that I took actually did an awesome job of capturing the inside of the cave but you literally could not see your hand in front of you, it was that dark. It's also about 45 degrees down there (hence the jackets). No one has touched these caves to make them functional etc. they simply put a ladder down there for you to go down and you are literally on your own. As we walked down there with our flashlights there was one time that when I shined my light straight ahead there was a huge opening but it looked like something from the movies. So Rachel says "oh man, did you see that movie The Descent?" As you know nothing is down there (hopefully) my mind totally pictured things crawling on the walls haha. Anyways just make sure you check out the Apes Caves if you have the chance when you visit WA as well!

High School in "Twilight" movie

Okay all of you Twilight fans out there, here is the high school they used in the movie "Twilight" as "Forks High School" which is actually really Kalama High School. While we were out visiting friends in WA state, my friend said that the high school they used in Twilight was actually his old high school so we had to check it out!

If you saw the movie you know exactly what took place here and where this was in the movie! Sorry to upset anyone that it was not really Forks High they used. Although they did film many parts in Forks, they used this high school instead. It's so cute though the way it sits on the hill and the view from it. We could not help ourselves when we saw the school going "oh man this is where Bella drives up with her truck and where the van slams into her truck and Edward saves her!" I know sad huh?? But anyways it was just cool and we wanted to share with you. So if you happen to be in Kalama, WA check out their school!

Even though his writing is not always the easiest to decipher, C.S. Lewis is one of the most brilliant writers of all time and he happens to be my favorite. He sends me for a loop 97% of the time, but when it clicks, I’m shocked at how insightful and straightforward even his metaphors are. This was exactly what went through my mind when I read the above quote. How do people think of this stuff? And how do they make it sound so good??
Let’s list some “virtues”, shall we?

Courage
Diligence
Ability
Determination
Patience
Balance
Loyalty
Purity
Self-confidence
Idealism

This is only naming a few. Now, can you carry any of these out without courage? No. Actually, most of them need the others to survive as well. But the main focus here is courage. When did we start giving up on it? When did we all start going along for the ride called “Life” and stop being loyal to ourselves by trying to make our dreams come alive? I’m being serious. There is nothing wrong with playing it safe, or with wanting a conventional life that you feel comfortable with. But why can’t dreams keep the purity and the magic that they always had?
I hear you. Because as we grow up, we realize this is the real world and its not at all how you see it when you are so young. That is not what I’m getting at. At some point, you have to have a balance in your life of idealism and realism. I had a conversation with a girl a few days ago. She told me she had always wanted to be a veterinarian. When I asked her why she never pursued it, she said “Well all kids want to be a vet when they grow up. But it normally doesn’t happen that way.” So I started wondering… why doesn’t it? Its one thing to change your mind as you get older, but its another to give up because you don’t think you can. Is this lack of self-confidence? Many children want to be astronauts. Same situation, you think you can’t. Do they not send people in to space anymore??
And now we are getting more to my point. My sisters and I were raised to be confident and never given any limits on the goals we should set for ourselves. From first hand experience I can tell you that it takes diligence to pursue and the patience for the right timing, but amazing things will happen that you didn’t think could. Somewhere in this time I feel like I stopped believing I can, however. My mind and my body crave more; more of what this life can be and what it has to offer. Why am I not seeking more? I want to change that… What do I want to be/do/see/experience? I have no idea. But I’m not going to sit around and never feel as though I gave my full potential.
Aspirations come in all shapes and sizes; they are unique to each person they belong to. Have the courage to seek what makes you happy, and have the determination to achieve the goals that only little kids still have the ability to dream.

It's Sunday afternoon, and I need a nap.

Count Your Blessings

My mom has always said to count your blessings when we were young and as you get older you truly understand that. I have truly been blessed with everything in my life from family, friends, my health, life, etc. Yeah we all get curveballs that come our way but that's life, when you step up to the plate you never know what you are going to get thrown at you. The ups and downs make you appreciate things more and make you a stronger person, so I say it's worth it all.

Today I was sitting at lunch with my mother and sister and there was a girl sitting right beside us that had to have been around Rach and I's age, she was in a wheelchair. I am not sure what or why she was in the chair but you could tell had surgery on from the scar on her throat. She had this amazing glow about her as she talked to her friend with a huge smile on her face. As I looked to the table behind us, there were three other women/girls sitting there gossiping about so and so or talking about how terrible things were at school/work. And as I sat there I thought how can someone like this sit right here not able to do everything like normal and have a huge smile on their face while someone that's perfectly normal just have the worst attitude about everything and rolling their eyes at people? I think all three of us were thinking the same thing with, how do some things happen to certain people and not to others? Why do some live all their life with nothing like that to deal with and others do? Anyone I have met with a disability has light or glow to their face that you just can't explain.

As I got up I smiled at her and she smiled back saying "Hello" and my heart just broke for her, even though she would probably look at me and go "why do you feel bad, because I don't..." It's amazing what these people go through and what they teach us and how strong a person can be. I like to consider them angels in a way that remind us that life is a great thing but it's how you live it that others see. You have to live life to the fullest because you don't know what tomorrow holds and always count your blessings, even going through the darkness.

Old people behind the wheel

Have you ever been driving and see an old person driving that is either running off the road, turning in front of you when there is not a soul behind you, flipping you off for getting to close to them when technically they are in your lane, hitting their gas when they thought it was the brake (maybe we should have the gas pedal buzz each time they hit it so they remember which is which). When living in FL it definitely paints a new picture for old people. I have never had a problem with them, I absolutely adore my grandparents but FL definitely has a pool of different blue haired old birds scooting around. My advice is to get a large SUV or truck and just stand your ground on the road, although I have a truck but does not seem to help them see you coming anymore than being in a Prius. Watch for the blue haired FL scooters!
